CT Camp Day 1 > Sean Gallagher

Driving up from Washington, DC I passed the time thinking “what did I get myself into”? “Do I really want to do this”.  I know no one. I’m going to get my butt kicked!!!  Well all the negative thoughts left very quickly when I was introduced to all the rest of the “campers”….. right before heading out on an easy five mile run.  The run was a great way to meet everyone and take in the area.

Today, I awoke at 5:35am.  I didn’t want to be late for the first workout.  The swim started at 6:30 with a 500 time trial. Then we did a series of drills.  The last one being the close fist drill.  This is something I haven’t done since my Y days.  This drill is a tough one.  It shows you every flaw in your stroke.  I guess this is why I haven’t done it since swimming at the Y some 25 years ago.

Next up was the ride.  Eric said take it easy on the way out to the stopping point.  So I took that to heart.  The wind was pretty tough today, so even keeping the pace down, it was still pretty hard.  I heard we were heading the Bash Bish falls.  I was looking   forward to seeing this place.  I wanted to see if it lived up to the pictures I’ve seen of it.  It was awesome.  But this little stop to see the falls was quickly put a side by a mystery run workout.  A 20 minute warm up followed by 7 hill repeats.  The last for were all out to see what our heart rates could get up too.  I thought I was going to puke.  After a quick lunch we were back on the bikes.  Up one of the toughest climbs I have ever done.  It didn’t end.  It all paid off with an incredible down hill.  I have to admit I was hitting the breaks a bit when I saw 45mph.  The rest of the ride was beautiful, but tough.  My legs were killing me from the run and all the climbing.  When I saw the sign for Lakeville I was psyched up, but there was still one nice climb left into town.  By this point I could smell the barn.

It was a great day!!!!  The support from everyone was truly inspiring.  Eric and his crew put together a great day.  I can’t wait for tomorrow!!!!
